Our view of the service

Date of assessment 22 January 2026 to 12 February 2026. The Crown is a care home. This is a specialist service that is used by autistic people or people with a learning disability. There were 2 people living at the service at the time of our assessment.

We have assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.

We found significant concerns across the service, including poor governance, unsafe restrictive practices, inconsistent record‑keeping and care plans that did not always reflect people’s individual needs. These shortfalls meant people were not consistently safe or receiving personalised, well‑coordinated support.

However, we also saw positive interactions, with staff showing kindness and understanding in people’s day-to-day support. People were encouraged to take part in activities they enjoyed, and staff made appropriate referrals when concerns about health or wellbeing were identified.

We identified 3 breaches of the legal regulations in relation to safe care and treatment, safeguarding and governance.

In instances where CQC have decided to take civil or criminal enforcement action against a provider, we will publish this information on our website after any representations and/ or appeals have been concluded.

People's experience of this service

Not all people could speak with us in detail about their experiences. Where this was the case, we also assessed people's experience by reviewing people's care records and observing the care and support they received. People’s experiences of care were mixed and not always positive. While staff usually treated people with kindness and understood their day to day needs, we identified unauthorised restrictive practices were taking place. However, we observed people were able to do the things they chose to do in their own home and were able to access the community to do the activities they enjoyed when they wished to do so. We observed staff recognised early signs of distress, were kind and patient.
