Our view of the service

YourLife (Maidenhead) provides personal care to people living in their own apartments; the service is located within a complex of 60 apartments, and not everyone who used the service required support with personal care. CQC only inspects where people receive personal care. This is help with tasks related to personal hygiene and eating. Where they do we also consider any wider social care provided. The service supports older people, and people with a physical disability, sensory impairment or dementia. We carried out an assessment commencing 17 January 2024 and ending on 1 February 2024. We found areas of good practice. Staff understood and responded appropriately to people’s care and support needs, and systems were in place to identify and respond to risks, including safeguarding concerns. The service had experienced a period of management turnover. We received positive feedback about the new manager, and support offered by the provider, but identified further improvements were required to ensure governance systems were embedded and sustained to effectively monitor the quality of the service.

People's experience of this service

Relatives told us people received safe care, from staff who treated them with kindness and respect. Staff approach was personalised to meet people's individual needs, for example, where people were living with sensory loss or dementia. People benefited from living in a well maintained environment adapted to their needs, with access to communal facilities such as a bistro offering daily meals. People and their relatives were included in care planning and told us the service responded effectively when incidents such as falls occurred. Relatives told us there had been concerns about management turnover and whether previous managers were working effectively. However, we received positive feedback about the new manager, who commenced their role in December 2023, with comments including, “She is very visible”, “The new manager seems to be on the ball” and “She is open and honest. [Manager name] is a massive upgrade.”
