Our view of the service
Date of Assessment: 25 November 2025.
Kings Lodge is a care home with nursing for people who have physical disabilities, health conditions or who are living with dementia. At the time of our visit 77 people were living at the service.
We identified shortfalls in relation to the running of the service. This included inconsistent record-keeping and confusing information in people’s care plans. We also found medicines storage was not always following best practice and where action had been taken in response to an incident, management had not carried out thorough checks to ensure that equipment purchased was suitable.
Governance processes were not effective as they were not always identifying shortfalls. Where management used dependency tools to determine staffing levels, these had not always taken into account people’s actual support needs and management were not monitoring staff practice sufficiently. Some incidents and accidents had not been reported to CQC in line with the requirements of registration.
Accidents and incidents were learned from and risks identified for some people were recorded and analysed. People received the medicines they required and people were supported to move into the service through safe transition processes.
Staff felt supported and able to speak up. They received regular supervision and training, although some said they felt they would benefit from some additional training. There was a strong management team in place who worked together well in relation to creating a positive culture within the service.
