Our view of the service

We assessed Pro Medicus from 11 to 13 June 2025. 

We carried out this focused assessment to determine whether improvements had been made against the requirements of the Section 29 warning notices, which were issued following our last assessment in January 2024.  We found that the requirements of the warning notices had not been fully met.  

Promedicus Limited was registered with CQC in June 2011 to deliver the regulated activities: Transport services, triage and medical advice provided remotely and Treatment of disease, disorder or injury. The service had a Registered Manager, who was also the service’s Nominated Individual. 

At this assessment we assessed 2 assessment service groups: Patient Transport Services, where we assessed 6 quality statements, and Emergency and Urgent Care, where we assessed 6 quality statements. During our assessment, we identified concerns regarding 1 further quality statement (safe and effective staffing). These concerns have been included in the report. However, we did not inspect all aspects of the quality statement. 

We visited the ambulance base as part of the assessment. 

At this assessment we identified breaches of regulations: 12 Safe Care and Treatment and 17 Good Governance. We also identified a breach of the requirement to notify CQC of other incidents and the requirement to display CQC performance assessments.  

We rated the location as requires improvement. We found breaches of regulations in relation to: infection prevention and control, medicines management, incident reporting, safe environments, training for staff, and processes for governance and the management of risk, issues and performance.
