At our last assessment we rated this key question good. At this assessment the rating has remained good. This meant people were supported and treated with dignity and respect; and involved as partners in their care.

Independence, choice and control

The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing. Care plans detailed people’s routines, what tasks people could do independently and what tasks they needed support with from staff.People and their relatives told us people were given choice in their day to day care. One relative told us, “They do give [person] a choice if [person] wants a wash or not.”

Relatives told us staff were caring and supported people with their preferences. One relative told us, “They [staff] always ask what [person’s] day has been like, they [staff] are young girls, I wanted [person] to have young girls around [persons] age group, they know about [persons] interests.”

Another relative told us, “They’ve [staff] gained a lot of understanding over [persons] unique needs and how to communicate with [person], they have the right approach for [person].”

The provider also told us that they were working with one family to encourage a person’s social engagement. The relative told us they were working together with the staff to find ways of encouraging the person to explore social activities outside of their home to support their wellbeing.
