Well-led
Well-led – this means we looked for evidence that service leadership, management and governance assured high-quality, person-centred care; supported learning and innovation; and promoted an open, fair culture. At our last assessment we rated this key question requires improvement. At this assessment the rating has changed to good. This meant the service was consistently managed and well-led. Leaders and the culture they created promoted high-quality, person-centred care.

Staff felt supported by the manager and senior leaders within the organisation. The feedback from staff and relatives relating to the management of the service was positive. Staff acknowledged the positive impact on the changes of managers in recent months. Staff we spoke with told us the new management team was supportive, and they felt they could talk to them if they had concerns. At the time of the assessment the manager was applying to become the registered manager.
The management team had introduced new flash meetings and had regular reviews with senior staff, and this had improved communication with staff across the home. People’s and their relatives’ views about the way the home operated were sought and taken into consideration.
The manager spoke about the importance of valuing the staff team and ensuring they worked as a team to ensure people’s needs were met. They told us, they were, "Focused on working through the issues at the home and ongoing coaching, mentoring and educating staff was key."
Capable, compassionate and inclusive leaders
Staff we spoke with were complimentary and supportive of the management team, some staff acknowledged the challenges that the home had in recent months, but they felt the new manager was making a positive impact. One relative told us, "The new manager is forthcoming – [they are] present, engaging, and on the unit."
The manager had oversight and knowledge of the day-to-day management of the home, and they had introduced new ways of working and this had made a significant improvement on communication between staff and management.
Freedom to speak up
The provider had effective systems for staff to raise concerns. Staff told us they could speak to the manager if needed, one staff member said, "The manager is a lovely manager [they are] very resident based and supportive to staff, and [their] door is always open."
The provider had recently introduced a digital reception where staff and visitors were asked a series of questions and if concerns were raised, management were made aware and appropriate action could be taken.
Workforce equality, diversity and inclusion

Governance, management and sustainability
The provider had clear responsibilities, roles, systems of accountability and good governance.The manager was completing monthly audits. These audits had been reviewed by senior managers and we could see appropriate action and support was provided when concerns were highlighted. The deputy manager demonstrated they had a good knowledge of people's individual needs and knew them well. They were dedicated and worked with the staff to provide good quality care to people who used the service. The management team carried out night visits unannounced, to ensure staff were providing consistently good care and support. Statutory notifications required by law, had been sent to CQC and the local authority in line with the provider’s policy.
