Our view of the service
Dates of assessment: 3 March 2026 until 17 March 2026. Bramwell is a residential care home that provides personal care and accommodation for up to 93 people. At the time of our assessment there were 93 people living at the home, although 2 were in hospital on the day of the assessment. The home was divided into 4 units, with most people living with dementia. The home was last rated good (published 3 February 2018). This assessment was prompted by the age of the services previous rating.
The home kept people exceptionally safe and had actively worked to reduce falls. The whole staff team had a culture of learning to drive improvements. People felt safe in the home and were supported by a skilled and knowledgeable staff team. The home was kept very clean and there was a strong focus on infection prevention and control. People were supported with their medicines by appropriately trained staff.
People’s needs were assessed in depth prior to admission and were continually reviewed to ensure staff had up to date knowledge to support people effectively. The staff delivered care in line with best practice, the registered manager had appointed champions, in areas such as oral hygiene and dementia, who delivered peer training to ensure people were supported effectively. The home had positive working relationships with other healthcare professionals to ensure people were receiving the appropriate healthcare when required. Staff were extremely observant and effective at monitoring any changes to people’s presentation and promptly escalated these to achieve good outcomes.
The whole staff team were extremely kind and caring; they supported people with patience and dignity. They knew people well and interacted with them in a personalised and individualised way. People were put first and chose how to spend their day, with a variety of activities both within the home and in the local community to choose from. Staff knew how to best empower people to be independent and were incredibly responsive to people’s needs. Staff listened to people and acted promptly on any feedback.
The registered manager was a very capable and compassionate leader, the whole staff team and people living at the home found them to be approachable and caring. They led by example and were always striving to improve care delivery.
People's experience of this service
People and their families spoke extremely positively about the care and treatment they received at Bramwell. They felt safe and supported by a caring, patient and friendly staff team. They described a broad range of activities and events including cultural events, birthday parties and events involving the local community. Families spoke positively about the communication they received from the home who kept them updated about their loved ones. They all stated that they felt there was enough staff who kept the service clean and safe.

“I cannot fault them, they have no idea of when I am going to rock up, there are always staff with the residents”
“Everyone cares and that comes from the top, and the manager, if not busy, will always have a chat, has her finger on the pulse, [Loved one] is a person and not a case to every single member of staff from the cleaner to the top…they have shown [loved one] lots of patience and reassurance that she is safe there and they sit with her… they always have a smile on their face.”
