Our view of the service

Date of assessment: 13 August to 8 September 2025. The service is a nursing home providing support to older people, some of whom were living with dementia.

We assessed the service due to concerns received about staff not seeking appropriate medical care for people, low staffing levels and a poor culture. We completed a full inspection of the service, looking at 33 quality statements due to the time since last inspection.

We found no evidence of these concerns during our inspection. Staff were seeking medical care for people as required, the service maintained appropriate levels of staffing for the needs of the people at the service and staff spoke positively of working at the service.

There was also a strong learning culture at the service, where staff focused on continuous improvement. Staff were knowledgeable about people’s needs and received a variety of training relevant to their role. The environment was clean and free from hazards.

People were involved in decisions about their care. Staff provided information people could understand and supported their communication needs. People knew how to give feedback and felt confident to do so.

Staff worked well together and with healthcare partners creatively and innovatively to improve outcomes for people. People received effective, person-centred care from a caring and compassionate staff team.

Staff and leaders demonstrated their commitment and openness to innovation and partnership working to enable people to achieve good outcomes. Leaders were visible, knowledgeable and supportive, helping staff develop in their roles. Leaders had established effective governance systems and processes to check the quality of care and continually make improvements.

People's experience of this service

We sought feedback from 6 people living at the service and 15 relatives. People and relatives were overwhelmingly positive about the quality of the care. They felt safe and were fully involved in planning their care and understood their rights. Comments included, “I feel safe because I’m with other people. I love it here”. Another person told us, “[Staff] are very careful to treat people with dignity. When they are with me, they make sure I am happy with things and are always polite.”

People told us staff were responsive to their needs, and we observed this during our onsite visit. Relatives described how the service had supported people’s health and wellbeing, and we saw examples of where the service used creative and innovative approaches to support people to achieve good outcomes.

Some people could not directly tell us about their experience. We used a structured observation tool to assess whether they received good care. This approach showed people’s needs were responded to, and showed staff consistently supported people in a kind, compassionate and dignified way.

We also received consistently positive feedback from relatives. One relative told us, “One thing I’ve found, it’s like a family. Staff go above and beyond. The staff come in their free time [days off] to support people.” Another relative said, “‘[My relative is] well cared for, the [staff] are brilliant, she’s improved so much.”
