Our view of the service

Chenies Mews Imaging Centre (CMIC) is a diagnostic imaging service operated by Q.S. Enterprises Limited, which is part of the University College London Hospitals (UCLH) Charity. The service provides magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to both National Health Service and private patients.

The service delivered a range of advanced MRI services including cardiac and adult congenital cardiac MRI, prostate imaging, orthopaedic and fetal MRI, MRI for patients with pacemakers and cardiac devices, and imaging to support research activity.

The service was observed to be clean, well-organised and equipped with modern imaging technology, including a 3-tesla MRI scanner. Staff demonstrated competence and confidence in their roles, and patients reported positive experiences, including feeling safe and well cared for. Patients were supported with additional time and adjustments when required.

The service operated under a block contract for National Health Service (NHS) activity and provided services for private patients. Governance structures were in place, including a board that met every two months and included senior charity representatives. Risk assessments and a risk register were maintained and reviewed.

Staff training compliance was high among locally employed staff, and competency frameworks were in place.

Overall, the service provided high‑quality specialist cardiac MRI within a caring and well‑staffed environment; however, improvements were needed to strengthen governance assurance around clinical audit.

People's experience of this service

People using the service reported positive experiences. Patients described staff as friendly, helpful, and professional, and spoke about the service as ‘very good’. They felt safe and well cared for during their visits.

Patients were given clear information before their appointments, including safety forms and scan details. Communication was adapted where needed, with access to British Sign Language interpreters and the use of Language Line.

Patients were able to access appointments in a timely manner; they had access to same-day bookings. The service contacted patients the day before they were scheduled to be seen, to confirm attendance and reduce the risk of missed appointments.
