Our view of the service

We assessed Cherry Tree Cottage (New Leaf Recovery) on 10 February 2026.

The inspection team consisted of 2 CQC mental health inspectors, 1 CQC medicines inspector, and 1 Specialist Advisor.

This was a comprehensive assessment including all quality statements.

The registered manager told us that clients can very rarely be funded by the local authority, but most clients were self-funded.

We found 3 breaches of the following regulations: Regulation 12: Safe Care and Treatment, Regulation 17: Good Governance and Regulation 18: Staffing. We identified issues around medicines management, patient records/treatment, HR records and supervision, staff training, oversight of audits and policies and incident reporting. Staff did not always complete comprehensive assessments of clients before initiating detox. Employment records were not always complete. Governance systems and audits were not always effective in identifying or addressing areas for improvement.

The provider had employed a compliance lead prior to the inspection and had started processes to employ a new registered manager.

We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.

People's experience of this service

There were 4 clients at the service on the day of inspection.

Clients were complimentary of the service they received. One client said they didn’t “have a bad word to say” about the service.

As part of the inspection, we spoke with 2 carers of clients who have recently used the service, who were also complimentary of the provider. They said they would recommend the service to anyone who needed support with substance misuse. One carer said, “it was a beautiful service”.

While the people we spoke with expressed that they were happy with their care, our assessment found elements of care did not meet the expected standards.
