People should be cared for by staff who are properly qualified and able to do their job (outcome 12)

Meeting this standard

We checked that people who use this service

  • Are safe and their health and welfare needs are met by staff who are fit, appropriately qualified and are physically and mentally able to do their job.

How this check was done

We looked at the personal care or treatment records of people who use the service and carried out a visit on 16 January 2013.

Our judgement

The inspection was limited to inspection of preparedness for service delivery and we unable therefore to find evidence of non compliance

Reasons for our judgement

We spoke to the manager and inspected two staff recruitment records which were in progress. We inspected the recruitment and selection policy and saw the job description and contract.

We saw evidence of the interview and applications process which indicated that the provider was testing the candidate's character and the skills and qualifications necessary for the work performed. The recruitment process was incomplete at the time of inspection so we did not see the references and other checks required or that these had yet been pursued. We could not confirm at the stage of inspection therefore that the provider was satisfied that the people they employed would meet the standard required.
