Our view of the service

Date of Assessment: 17 March to 15 April 2025. The service is a residential care home support to autistic people and people with a learning disability. The service is registered to accommodate 50 people over seven bungalows on one site.

We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.

The service was in breach of two regulations. The provider had failed to have effective systems in place to identify, monitor and manage risks for people. This included the safe management of medicines. The provider had also failed to provide robust quality monitoring processes to ensure effective oversight of the service.

There were variations across the service in how well people’s health needs and capacity to consent were assessed, monitored and recorded. People’s needs were fully assessed and this included detailed information about the best ways to communicate effectively.

People, relatives and external professionals said that staff were kind and caring. We observed staff supporting people with patience and understanding whilst enabling them to make choices. People were supported to stay in touch with family members and people who were important to them.

People's experience of this service

People were positive about the quality of their care. They said they felt safe, especially when they had staff to support them who knew them well. People said there were enough staff available to enable them to do the things they wanted. Relatives told us staff had the right skills and knowledge to support the different needs of the people who used the service.

People told us that if they were unwell staff would recognise this or support them to seek medical advice. Relatives and people said staff were kind and caring and gave examples to demonstrate this. People told us they were able to make their own choices, including their involvement in looking after aspects of their home.

People told us about the activities they were involved in and how they spent their time. They said they met regularly with staff who were their keyworker to discuss their care. This made people feel listened to and involved in their care.
