People were protected from the risk of harm and abuse. Care plans were clear and provided appropriate guidance to staff to keep people safe. There were sufficient numbers of well trained staff in place to support people to meet their needs.

Safeguarding

Staff were knowledgeable about the safeguarding process and were clear on how to report concerns. Staff told us, “We have had safeguarding training several times.”

There were effective systems, processes and practices to ensure people were safe from the risk of harm and abuse.

People felt safe. One person said, “I feel safe with the staff, they are friends to me.” Leaders notified the local authority and CQC of any safeguarding concerns where required.

Involving people to manage risks

Staff were very knowledgeable about people’s needs and preferences, and where to find information about people's risks.

Care plans contained appropriate guidance and direction for staff to keep people safe. For example, food and drink monitoring.

We observed people and relatives were involved in making decisions about their care and support.

Safe and effective staffing

There were sufficient numbers of staff who were observed to be quick to recognise people's immediate needs

Staff told us they were well supported by the management team and felt confident to raise any concerns. They told us there were enough staff to meet people’s needs. Staff confirmed they received regular supervision and appraisals. One staff member told us, “Management are very approachable.”

The recruitment process was safe. Staff received training to carry out their roles along with regular updates. The overview records confirmed this.

People and their relatives told us they were supported by a consistent staff team who knew them very well. One person told us, “The home have tried different things and are not giving up on (Persons’s name) mobility.”
