Safe environments
The service detected and controlled potential risks in the care environment. They made sure equipment, facilities and technology supported the delivery of safe care.
The practice maintained a safe environment through effective systems for Infection, Prevention and Control oversight, equipment testing, emergency preparedness, and clear reporting processes, supported by trained staff and engagement with building management. Staff and leaders undertook audits to ensure they had identified and addressed risks, and the service had a business continuity plan which was regularly reviewed and outlined how the service should continue to operate in the event of disruption. However, assurance was reduced as some risk assessments were not aligned to the current setting and key information such as fire procedures and privacy options at reception were not consistently visible. Following the inspection, the provider developed relevant risk assessments and confirmed they would improve the visibility of fire safety and privacy options in the reception area.Safe and effective staffing
The service made sure there were enough qualified, skilled and experienced staff, who received effective support, supervision and development. They worked together well to provide safe care that met people’s individual needs.
Staff were appropriately trained, supported, and monitored, with effective systems for managing workload, performance, and wellbeing, alongside an open culture that enabled escalation of concerns. The service followed safe recruitment procedures when employing staff, which were in line with national legislation. The service was staffed by a mix of clinical and non-clinical staff, such as GPs, nurses, and pharmacists.
Infection prevention and control
The service assessed and managed the risk of infection. They detected and controlled the risk of it spreading and shared concerns with appropriate agencies promptly.
The practice had effective Infection prevention and control (IPC) arrangements, with a dedicated lead overseeing compliance through structured cleaning schedules, checklists, and regular spot checks. Staff demonstrated good adherence to IPC principles, supported by up-to-date training and clear processes, which minimised infection risks. During our onsite visit, the service's premises and a sample of equipment reviewed was noted to be visibly clean. Staff complete mandatory annual IPC training, regular audits and carry out appropriate management of personal protective equipment and clinical waste.
