Nicholas Court is a care home with nursing providing personal care and support for people with learning disabilities and complex needs. The care home is registered for 8 people. At the time of our assessment 5 people were using the service.
We undertook an announced inspection visit to the service on 29 July 2025 where we met with people, staff and management. We have undertaken a comprehensive inspection which means we have reviewed all 33 quality statements. As a result of this inspection, we have rated the service as good for safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led, leading to a good rating for the service overall.
We assessed the service against ‘right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.
Risks were assessed and mitigated, and systems were in place to reduce abuse and avoidable harm. There were enough staff with the right skills, qualifications and experience. Staff received training and appraisals to support them to meet people’s needs. Staff managed medicines well and safely.
Staff worked with health and social care professionals involved in people’s care for the best outcomes. People had access to health professionals when needed and their health was monitored by staff. Staff listened to people’s choices and systems were in place to make sure people understood their care and support so they could give informed consent.
People were treated with kindness and compassion. Staff promoted and protected people’s privacy and dignity. People were treated as individuals and their preferences were respected. People were supported to maintain relationships with family and friends. Staff responded to people’s requests for assistance in a timely way.
Audits and governance tools were in place to help ensure the safety and quality of the service. We received positive feedback about the management team from relatives and staff. The provider worked in partnership with relevant external partners and agencies to ensure people had access to the services they required.
People's experience of this service
People and their family members were very positive about the quality of the care being provided by the home. People were safe and fully involved in planning their care and understood their rights. Staff were knowledgeable and treated people as individuals. Families told us people are safe, and they are in good hands. The service provided lots of interesting activities to keep people physically and mentally active. Some people could not directly tell us about their experience. We used a structured observation tool to assess whether they received good care. This approach showed people were included and listened to and staff consistently interacted positively with them.
