Our view of the service
Westbury Lodge is a registered care home providing the regulated activity of accommodation for persons who require nursing or personal care to people. At the time of our assessment, there were 8 people using the service. We visited on the 23 July 2025. We completed this assessment due to concerns we had received about the service. During this assessment we looked at all quality statements under the safe and well led key questions.
We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. People were not always supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives. Staff did not always provide people with care in the least restrictive way possible and did not always act in their best interests; the policies and systems in the service did not always support this practice.
Additionally, the provider did not always have accurate medicines records. We also observed some health and safety concerns in the environment, which had not been identified by the provider.
However, staff were being supported with supervision and developmental opportunities. People had care records that controlled risk and regular health and safety audits were being completed.
The service was in breach of legal regulations in relation to safe care and treatment and governance of the service.
People's experience of this service
People we spoke to told us they were happy and liked their home. We were told ‘staff were good.' People had access to their local community and activities. During our site visit we saw staff interacting positively with people. However, staff did not always respect people’s rights and dignity when accessing people’s bedrooms..
