During a routine inspection

People who used the service had learning difficulties. Some of them did not express their views to us. Five of them informed us that they were well cared for and happy living in the home. We also spoke to a relative who stated that staff had treated people with respect and dignity.

We observed that people who used the service appeared well cared for and were dressed appropriately. Staff were noted to be constantly supervising and engaging people in various activities. Plans of care had been prepared for people following consultation with people and their representatives. There were suitable arrangements in place to manage medicines.

The bedrooms and communal areas appeared homely and had been kept clean and tidy. Bedrooms had been personalised by people with their pictures and ornaments.

The home had a recruitment procedure. Staff records examined indicated that the necessary recruitment checks had been carried out. Staff were knowledgeable regarding their roles and responsibilities.

The home had a complaints procedure. People and a relative said they knew who to talk to if they were unhappy with the services provided. The home also had a record of compliments received.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with four people who used the service. Everyone told us they were happy living in the home. One person told us, 'I went to drama this morning, it was good.' Another person commented, 'I like my room and I'm happy to live here.'

Comments made by relatives of people who use the service recorded on annual quality questionnaires showed they considered that the service was meeting the individual needs of the people. They also felt supported by staff. One relative commented, 'we always have excellent support from everybody' and went on to say that, 'our son is happy and well-cared for with respect.' Another wrote that the service was, 'very friendly and more than home from home'.

Staff received appropriate training and support to enable them to deliver the care to people that they needed. They demonstrated the knowledge and skills needed to protect people from abuse. The provider regularly monitored the service to make sure that risks to people were minimised and an appropriate standard of care and treatment provided.
