Our view of the service
The inspection of Devonshire House took place between 16th July and 12th August 2025.
Devonshire House is a care home providing accommodation, nursing and personal care for up to 69 people. There were 50 people living at the service during our inspection. The reason we inspected was in response to concerns we received about the safe management of medicines and the culture within the home. This inspection focused on the key questions of Safe and Well-Led only.
People were accommodated across 3 units named Ryder, Main and Suites. The registered manager was absent from work and there was a covering manager from another of the provider’s services present at the home.
During this inspection we found improvements were needed to the culture in the home. The provider was aware of this and was working proactively with stakeholders and staff to make the necessary improvements. We also found there were shortfalls with the safe management of people’s medicines and the systems used to record this. The external grounds also required work to make them a safe space for people who were living with dementia. The provider was transparent and responsive to the concerns and shortfalls found at this inspection.
People's experience of this service
People and their relatives told us they were happy with the care and support provided. One person said, “On the whole they are kind and they know me so well. If I have a problem, I tell the team leader and they sort things out pretty well. If there are concerns about my health, they get the GP in for their opinion. I feel safe and am alright here.” Another person told us, “It is very homely and exactly the same way as my home. I have all my things around me, I feel very cosy and happy here.”
While people, and relatives, we spoke with said they were happy with their care, our inspection found governance systems had not always been used effectively to identify shortfalls such as concerns with the safe management of medicines. The provider was responsive to any feedback provided.
