People had individualised, decision specific mental capacity assessments in place. Where people were deprived of their liberty, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) were in place and people were supported in line with their agreed plans. Staff had received training in Mental Capacity Act (MCA) and understood how to support people in line with the Act.

Mental capacity assessments were in place and had been completed in line with best practice, it was clear to see the informed decisions people had made.

People told us they made choices about their day-to-day life, this included when they went to bed and when they woke up. People also told us the places they chose to go.

The provider told us that managers had undertaken a Mental Capacity Assessment (MCA) workshop to increase competency in this area. An audit had been carried out of MCA and identified that people may have limitations in accepting or declining activities due to staffing levels. The provider assured us they have undertaken a review of staffing levels. Staff demonstrated an understanding of the Mental Capacity Act 2005. A staff member told us, “I give people choices, let them make their own decisions”.
