Assessing needs

Score: 3

The provider made sure people’s care and treatment was effective by assessing and reviewing their health, care, wellbeing and communication needs with them. People and relatives said staff provided effective support that met people’s needs. One person told us, “It is a lovely place to be, nothing is too much trouble.”

Delivering evidence-based care and treatment

Score: 3

The provider planned and delivered people’s care and treatment with them, including what was important and mattered to them. This included supporting people to eat and drink well. Dietary needs and choices were assessed and regularly reviewed. A relative said, “The food is very good with a good range. The staff know the residents and will prepare something for residents with particular likes and dislikes.”

How staff, teams and services work together

Score: 3

The provider worked well across teams and services to support people. Healthcare partners spoke positively about the service and how they worked with staff. One told us, “It’s very good from our perspective…Staff know people here very well, and we trust what they tell us about their needs.”

Supporting people to live healthier lives

Score: 3

The provider supported people to manage their health and wellbeing to maximise their independence, choice and control. Staff supported people to live healthier lives and where possible, reduce their future needs for care and support. Advice was sought from healthcare partners and acted on. One healthcare partner told us, “Senior carers are very proactive in seeking reviews.”

Monitoring and improving outcomes

Score: 3

The provider routinely monitored people’s care and treatment to continuously improve it. People and their relatives told us staff helped people to achieve positive care outcomes. One relative said, “I am very happy with the home, very impressed.”

The provider told people about their rights around consent and respected these when delivering person-centred care and treatment. People were involved in decisions about their care, and where they lacked capacity to make these, relatives and those close to them helped staff make best interests decisions on their behalf. However, records did not always reflect this. For example, consent was not always consistently recorded and some relatives said they were not consistently involved in care reviews and decisions. We spoke the provider about this, who said this would be reviewed.
