Our view of the service
Date of assessment: 6 August to 22 August 2025. Windsor Court is a nursing home providing accommodation, personal care and treatment of disease, disorder or injury for up to 77 people across four units. People who live at the service were younger and older adults who may live with dementia or physical disabilities. There were 69 people living at the service when we inspected.
The inspection was undertaken to review breaches of regulation found during the last inspection in March 2021. The breaches related to poor environment, staffing and governance in the service. The provider completed an action plan in response to the concerns found at that inspection. During this inspection, we found the provider had made improvements and were no longer in breach of regulations.
People were cared for with dignity and respect by staff who knew them well. Staff ensured people were given choice in their everyday lives and efforts had been made to ensure people’s care preferences were recorded and followed. People could take advantage of an activities schedule in the service. Staff were working hard to increase the activities provision, tailoring opportunities to peoples interests and working to build stronger relationships within the local community.
Staff were trained and confident in their roles. Management and senior leaders supported staff to develop and provided opportunities to learn new skills. People received their medication safely from staff who were competent to do so. There was enough staff to provide safe care, however feedback from relatives and people suggested at times staffing levels could be improved. The provider was continuing to review the staff provision for the service and took feedback onboard during the inspection. Additional support had already been introduced for the service at night.
Care plans were in place which identified people’s needs, these were written in a person-centred way and included people’s preferences. We found some areas of the care planning documents would benefit from expanding to provide more detail about the person and risks to them. However, the provider had recently introduced a new electronic care planning system, so work was still ongoing in this area and staff knew people well.
The registered manager and senior team were on site daily to support the service. People, relatives and staff felt they could approach the manager at any time and concerns would be dealt with quickly. Audits were taking place to review the safety and care standards in the service; action plans were in place when needed. There was a culture of learning and growth within the service. Incidents and accidents were reviewed openly; changes were made to care when needed and outside agencies were contacted for support, when indicated, to help reduce people’s risk and to keep them safe.
