Our view of the service
The assessment was carried out between 7 May and 1 June 2026. We undertook 3 visits to the home on the 7, 14 and 21 May 2026 and reviewed information that the registered manager sent us electronically following our visits.
Collingwood Court is a care home which provides accommodation and personal care to a maximum of 63 older people, including people living with dementia. At the time of our assessment there were 63 people living at the home.
The home is registered under 2 providers, Care UK Care Services Limited and Care UK Community Partnership Ltd. This report relates specifically to the service registered under Care UK Community Partnerships Ltd.
At our previous inspection in August 2024, we identified 2 breaches of the regulations in relation to safe care and treatment and good governance. This assessment was carried out to check whether the provider had followed their action plan and achieved compliance with the previously breached regulations. We found that improvements had been made and the provider was no longer in breach of the regulations.
A new registered manager was in post and leadership within the service was a key strength. The registered manager was highly visible, approachable and actively involved in the day-to-day running of the home. They led by example and modelled exceptional kindness, person-centred values and fostered a positive and inclusive culture. People, relatives, health and social care professionals, community partners and staff spoke overwhelmingly positively about the registered manager, who was described as making a significant positive difference to the home.
The service demonstrated a clear and inclusive culture which was underpinned by a strong shared vision. The home’s mission, “First and foremost a home where individuals come to regain community and feel a sense of love and dignity” was clearly understood by staff and reflected in everyday practice. A health professional told us, “The staff are always cheerful, welcoming, and approachable. Their positive attitude helps create a happy atmosphere within the home and provides reassurance to both residents and families.”
There was a strong and well-established commitment to partnership working. Managers and staff worked closely with a wide range of health and social care professionals and community partners to ensure people received coordinated, responsive and seamless care. Professionals consistently described the service as proactive, well organised and highly effective, with excellent communication that supported positive outcomes for people.
The provider was outstanding at involving people in their care and treating people with compassion, respect and warmth. Care was highly personalised and staff used a detailed understanding of each person’s history, interests, preferences and faith to shape daily routines, activities and overall wellbeing. This resulted in people experiencing care that reflected what mattered most to them.
Staff felt well supported and valued and this was reflected in a motivated and cohesive workforce. A strong emphasis was placed on staff development, with opportunities for training, mentoring and career progression. This inclusive approach enabled staff to develop their skills and confidence and contributed to a stable and capable team committed to high-quality care.
Medicines were generally well managed, with minor recording issues promptly addressed. Staffing levels were monitored using a dependency-based approach and although feedback about staffing levels was mixed, we observed sufficient staff available to meet people’s needs during our visits. A whole-home approach to care was evident, with all staff working together to support people. There were no safeguarding concerns identified.
The environment was clean and well maintained. Some limitations around space and storage were identified, including occasional use of communal areas for staff training. The registered manager was aware of this and was actively exploring ways to address these challenges. This included involving people in elements of staff training sessions, where appropriate, so they could remain in the lounge, feel included, and benefit from engaging and interesting activities, rather than needing to move elsewhere.
Governance arrangements were effective and supported continuous oversight and improvement. Audits and checks were carried out regularly and an electronic system provided a clear, real-time dashboard of performance across the home. This enabled managers to monitor trends, manage risks and take timely action.
People's experience of this service
Feedback from people, their friends and relatives described an exceptionally caring, supportive and high-quality service where people were treated with dignity, respect and genuine warmth. Comments were very positive and included, “If there was ever a care home to set the bar and be used as a prototype of what outstanding quality and care looks like, Collingwood Court is that home,” and “The care they give is second to none. [Person] is very well cared for at Collingwood Court. Not just from the carers, but all of the staff. The domestic staff are absolutely amazing, not just keeping the home immaculate but also caring for the residents too.”
Health and social care professionals and community partners also spoke very highly of the service, which reinforced the positive experiences of people, their relatives and friends. One professional told us, “The carers really do care about their residents and it's lovely to see. If I needed a care home for one of my friends or relatives, I would choose Collingwood Court,”
People’s social and emotional needs were met through creative, meaningful and engaging opportunities. The service went above and beyond to ensure people’s lifelong interests, preferences and personal wishes were recognised and fulfilled. A “Wish List Tree” enabled people to express goals that were important to them, and staff made every effort to achieve these, supporting people to experience enjoyment, purpose and a sense of achievement.
Relatives and people’s friends highlighted the positive impact of this. Comments included, “There is always something going on from bingo and quizzes to parties with singers. [Person] especially loves the singing and dancing and is living his best life” and “The staff seem focused on making her life worthwhile.” Professionals and community partners similarly praised the quality of engagement and activities. Comments included, “We are continually impressed by the atmosphere within the home, the quality of activities provided and most importantly, the way residents are cared for by the staff team. It is genuinely wonderful to see” and “I feel that the range of activities provided for residents contributes positively to their overall quality of life.”
Staff demonstrated an in-depth understanding of people and those important to them, building strong, meaningful relationships. A relative told us, “One of the things that makes this place magical is the fact all of the staff get to know each and every person living there and nothing is ever too much trouble, whatever the residents or family ask for.”
People’s health needs were also very well supported. A health professional told us, “Another aspect that stands out is how attentive and proactive the staff are when there are concerns about a resident’s health. They are quick to contact nurses or seek further medical advice when necessary, showing professionalism and a strong commitment to resident safety.”
