8 November 2013

During an inspection looking at part of the service

We visited the clinic at Alderley Edge as a follow-up visit to check whether staff had completed immunisation training since the previous inspection. We could not speak to people who used the service because no one had received treatment at the Alderley Edge clinic during the last 18 months.

We found that staff had a better understanding and had updated their knowledge about providing an immunisation service.

6 June 2013

During an inspection looking at part of the service

We visited the Childrens Immunisation Centre on Thursday 6 June 2013 to assess whether improvements had been made in respect of how staff were recruited and the checks made before employment.

Prior to this visit concerns had been raised about some of the operating practices of the organisation. Therefore, at this inspection we gathered evidence to inform us of these practices. We have subsequently considered this information in conjunction with information gathered at an inspection on Saturday 22 June at Children's Immunisation Centre Limited ' Immunisation and Medical Centre, a location that this organisation operates from, situated at 15 St John Street, Manchester.

The Childrens Immunisation Centre in Alderley Edge is the Head Office of the organisation and no clinics are held there. Therefore we were unable to talk with parents or children as they attend for treatment at other locations. This report, detailing our inspection on 6 June 2013 was therefore delayed until we could corroborate information we gathered with actual practices at the Manchester clinic.

For further information about our findings please refer to the report on our website of the inspection at Children's Immunisation Centre Limited ' Immunisation and Medical Centre, 15 St John Street, Manchester on 22 June 2013.

7 January 2013

During a routine inspection

We completed an unannounced inspection visit on 07 January 2013, to The Children's Immunisation Centre Alderley Edge.

We spoke with the provider and staff on duty during the course of our inspection.

On the day of our inspection we did not meet any people who used the service as this service provides a doctors consultation and treatment service and remote clinical advice service. It does not operate a clinic from this address.

We saw from the records held at the Children's Immunisation Centre Head Office that the people who used the service received appropriate information and completed consent for any immunisation or vaccinations. We saw that customer satisfaction telephone surveys were completed annually and people's comments and views were recorded. People's care and treatment records were reviewed and monitored with care record audits carried out by the provider.

We found there were systems in place to check that the registrations of the qualified nursing staff were up to date and that the doctors were registered with their professional body. However we found that there were some gaps in the security checks undertaken before staff began work to ensure people were cared for, or supported by, suitably qualified, skilled and experienced staff.
