Our view of the service
This inspection took place between17 December 2025 and 08 January2026. Acer House Care The home provides personal care for up to 60 older people, including those living with dementia. At the time of the assessment, 57 people were living there.We assessed 33 quality statements across the key questions of safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. At this assessment the service has been rated Good.
The provider demonstrated a positive and inclusive culture, supported by effective governance and a stable, motivated management team. Leaders were proactive in driving improvements and maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements. They worked effectively with people, relatives, healthcare professionals and community organisations to achieve positive outcomes.
Staff received appropriate training and ongoing support and understood their responsibilities in keeping people safe. Risk management, infection prevention and control practices were satisfactory, and medicines were administered by trained and competent staff.
People’s needs were assessed face to face, and care plans were detailed, person-centred and reflective of individual preferences and routines. Staff supported people to remain active, socially engaged and emotionally well. The registered manager promoted equity of access within the service and the wider community, advocating on people’s behalf to achieve outcomes that mattered to them. Staff were skilled and confident in supporting people at the end of their lives, enabling those who wished to remain at the home to do so.
People's experience of this service
We spoke with 10 people who use the service and 12relatives to learn about their experiences of the care provided.Some people could not directly tell us about their experiences, which meant we spent time observing their interactions with staff. We used the Short Observational Framework for Inspection (SOFI), a structured observation tool to help us understand their experience and assess whether they received good care. We observed a calm and supportive environment, where people were supported to move about the service independently. Areas of the service were decorated to enhance the experience of people living with dementia. We observed positive interactions between staff and people.
People received support from a consistent and compassionate staff team who promoted kindness, dignity, independence, and choice. This continuity helped people build trusting relationships with staff and supported their emotional wellbeing.
Staff were appropriately trained, enabling them to support people safely and effectively. People personalised their rooms and maintained close relationships with family and friends, supported by an open and welcoming culture within the home.
People enjoyed calm, positive mealtime experiences and were offered choice and support as needed. Care planning was person centred and involved people and their families, including planning for end of life care in line with individual wishes.
People benefitted from a structured activities programme, access to healthcare services, and effective support to attend appointments, helping to maintain their health, wellbeing, and quality of life.
