During a routine inspection

We used a number of different methods to help us understand the experiences of people using the service, because the people using the service had complex needs which meant they were not able to tell us their experiences. Due to this we have used a formal way to observe people to help us understand how their needs were supported. We call this the 'Short Observational Framework for Inspection (SOFI). We spoke with nine people living at Maple Lodge and with four of their visitors. We also spoke with a health professional and social care professional visiting people at the home and with six members of staff.

The people living at Maple Lodge and their relatives told us they had been satisfied with the support they had received. We found that people had been consulted about their care and had received the care they had needed and preferred.

There were sufficient staff working at Maple Lodge to meet the needs of the people living there. Relatives told us that they liked the staff team. Their comments included, 'Fantastic,' and 'They do a good job.' Staff had the experience and training they needed to support people safely and well. Throughout our visit we observed that people appeared comfortable with the staff supporting them.

Systems were in place at Maple Lodge to check the quality of the service provided and to plan and monitor any improvements identified.

We used a number of different methods to help us understand the experiences of people using the service, because the people using the service had complex needs which meant they were not able to tell us their experiences. In addition we spoke with six of the people living there, four of their visitors and three professional visitors; we also spoke with five members of staff who held different roles within the home.

We found that the majority of people we spoke with had received the support they had needed with their personal care. One person commented, 'I am looked after, couldn't ask for more'.
