Our view of the service
The assessment was conducted between 3 March and 8 April 2026; we visited the location’s office on 5 March 2026. Kanssas Home Care Ltd is a domiciliary care service providing care and support to people of varying needs and ages in their own homes. At the time of the assessment, 137 people were using the service, of whom 91 received the regulated activity of personal care.
The service operated systems to protect people from abuse and neglect. Staff understood their responsibility to report concerns. The provider assessed and managed risks to people’s health, care and safety. There was a proactive culture around how the service responded to concerns and took actions to protect people from harm. Staff were trained and assessed as competent to carry out their duties. They attended to people on time and ensured all care tasks were completed appropriately. There were systems to help people take their medicines safely.
The service assessed and reviewed people’s needs regularly. Staff supported people to eat and drink as per their wishes. Staff monitored people's health and wellbeing closely, and escalated concerns promptly. People had agreed to their care plan and staff sought their consent before providing care.
Staff collaborated with people, their relatives and health and social care professionals with the aim to provide good quality, person-centred care. The service responded to people's changing needs[EW1] promptly and effectively. Staff offered people choices and supported them to maintain their independence as much as possible. Care plans contained clear instructions for staff on how to support people.
The provider ensured staff received appropriate support and guidance. Managers investigated complaints thoroughly and took necessary actions to ensure people were satisfied with their care. They maintained effective oversight of the service. They monitored several aspects affecting people’s care and carried out regular quality assurance checks and audits, taking timely action to ensure safety, compliance, and continuous improvement. Leaders, including office staff, were approachable, supportive and responsive to the needs of people using the service, as well as staff.
However, we identified some areas where improvements were needed. While the service conducted the required checks to make sure staff were recruited safely, there were gaps in staff employment histories. Not every notifiable incident had been reported to CQC. The provider took our feedback onboard and immediately began addressing these concerns.
We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed autistic people and people with a learning disability respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.
People's experience of this service
Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with people and relatives praising the highly compassionate, responsive, and attentive care and support provided by both staff and management. They described care workers as “pleasant”, “caring”, “professional”, “friendly”, “respectful” and “approachable”. People and relatives told us they felt safe using the service. Their comments included, “There are no safety issues whatsoever between the carers and my relatives care.” They spoke positively about their familiar care staff team and the “good standards” of care provided. A person told us, “I’m happy with my carers”, while a relative described staff as having “a good personality and pleasant all the time.” These comments aligned with the consistently positive feedback received from other people and relatives.
However, some people and their relatives raised concerns about staff speaking in languages they did not understand, with some reporting a “language barrier” issue. The provider was aware of this issue and were taking steps to address it. Overall, people and relatives were happy with the care and support they received. They told us they would recommend the service.
