Staff should be properly trained and supervised, and have the chance to develop and improve their skills (outcome 14)

Meeting this standard

We checked that people who use this service

  • Are safe and their health and welfare needs are met by competent staff.

How this check was done

We looked at the personal care or treatment records of people who use the service, carried out a visit on 3 January 2013, observed how people were being cared for and checked how people were cared for at each stage of their treatment and care. We talked with people who use the service and talked with staff.

Our judgement

Staff were supported to deliver care and treatment safely and to an appropriate standard.

Reasons for our judgement

People told us the staff were "very good" and "great". They were able to identify who there key worker was and said they liked having a key worker.

Staff told us that they felt well supported. They said they received training that helped them to carry out their role. They also said that training was easy to arrange and access. One person who had recently come to work for this company described their induction. Another member of staff described the values of organisation which included promoting autonomy and independence.

We did not see records; however, staff described the training they had received. This included moving and handling, first aid, managing medicines, food and hygiene, fire safety, learning disability awareness, autism, dementia and managing challenging behaviours.

Staff also told us they received supervision every six weeks, which, they said, helped to identify their learning and training needs.
