Inspection carried out on 17 January 2013

During a routine inspection

We spoke to three people who used the service and three carers of people. We also observed care and support provided to one person. We found that people who used the service understood the care and choices available to them and were able to express their views and were involved in making decisions. One person said " I just tell them what I want. I would never go anywhere else, I honestly cannot imagine a better care company". We also talked to the three of the six staff and the manager of the service, reviewed the care records of seven people and looked at the thirty seven questionnaires returned by people in 2012.

We found that people's needs were assessed and care and treatment was planned and delivered in line with individual needs, in a way intended to ensure people�s safety and welfare. One person's carer told us " I think Homecomforts supply a wonderful package of care, we have had another agency and their support was lacking in comparison".

Through talking to staff and reviewing care plans and other documentation we found that the provider had taken reasonable steps to identify the possibility of abuse and prevent it from happening. Staff were able to tell us what they would do if a safeguarding issue arose and confirmed they had received training.

We found that the provider had not maintained accurate and appropriate records.
