Our view of the service

Date of assessment: 26 November 2025.

Farriess Court is a care home providing personal care and accommodation for up to 26 people. At the time of the inspection 23 people were living at the home. The service provides care to younger adults, older people, some of whom were living with dementia and/or physical disabilities.

This was a planned assessment.

Safety concerns identified on the day of inspection included a frayed carpet and a loose door. The registered manager took immediate action to eliminate the risk of harm to people and improve the systems for identifying and reporting safety risks in the environment.

Overall, the home was clean. However, we found there to be areas for improvement. For example, stained floor coverings and chipped paintwork, worn furniture and damaged equipment presented a risk to effective infection and control (IPC) procedures as these could not be cleaned thoroughly. The provider was aware of the safety and IPC issues and had an action plan in place to make improvements. Many maintenance and safety improvements had been made, including the installation of a new boiler providing hot water and heat throughout the home and openers fitted to windows to ensure fresh air could enter the home.

The provider confirmed no CCTV was used at the location and the CCTV in use signage was removed immediately.

We found improvements had been made since the last inspection. For example, people’s risk assessments were followed to ensure their safety. The provider had made arrangements for people to smoke safely outside the building to eliminate the impact of smoke in the home.

Stakeholders shared consistently positive feedback about the staff and the registered manager.

Pre-admission assessments were completed face to face to ensure people’s needs could be met safely. People or their relatives knew who to speak to if they had any concerns and were confident any issues they reported would be resolved. People were supported to manage their medicines safely.

People’s health and care needs were understood and arrangements made to ensure these were met. A medical professional attended the home weekly to review people’s health care needs. Daily visits were made by the district nurse team to manage people’s diabetes.

The management team had the skills, knowledge and experience to lead the service.
