Our view of the service
Date of assessment: 11 March 2026.
The Amwell is a ‘care home’ without nursing for older people living with physical disabilities and conditions such as dementia. At the time of the assessment, 32 people were living at the service. People in care homes receive accommodation and personal care as a single package under one contractual agreement. CQC regulates both the premises and the care provided. Both were looked at during this assessment.
This assessment was carried out to follow up on previous breaches of legal regulations relating to safe care and treatment and good governance. We reviewed 4 quality statements as part of this assessment: Learning culture, involving people to manage risk, medicines optimisation and governance, management and sustainability. The previous comprehensive assessment of The Amwell reviewed all the quality statements and was published 24 March 2026.
At this assessment improvements had been made, and the provider was no longer in breach of the legal regulations relating to safe care and treatment and good governance.
At this assessment improvements continued to be made. Accidents and incidents were monitored, and action was taken to mitigate risks to people.
Medicines management had improved and the implementation of a new system was assisting; however, some further improvements were still needed. The management team continued to review people’s care plans to ensure they were person-centred and reflected their needs.
Feedback from visiting healthcare professionals was positive on the improvements that continued to be made at the service.
The provider had numerous processes to monitor and improve the quality and safety of the service. The registered manager and leaders had a visible presence throughout the service. The registered manager was clear about their responsibilities for reporting to the CQC and the regulatory requirements of their role.
People's experience of this service
We observed kind, compassionate interactions. People gave positive feedback about their experiences. They told us staff were caring and patient, and that they felt safe. One person said, “It's wonderful here and the staff are lovely.”
We observed staff offer reassurance when people appeared distressed and had a depth of knowledge about them, which they used to help people reduce their anxieties.
