Our view of the service
Date of assessment: 17 to 19 August 2026. The service is a care at home service and is registered to provide care to the ‘whole population.’
The provider had a good learning culture and people could raise concerns. Managers investigated incidents thoroughly. People were protected and kept safe from the risk of abuse. Staff understood and managed risks. There were enough staff with the right skills, qualifications and experience. Managers made sure staff received training and regular appraisals to maintain high-quality care. Staff managed medicines well and involved people in planning any changes.
People were involved in assessments of their needs. Staff reviewed assessments taking account of people’s communication, personal and health needs. Care was based on latest evidence and good practice. People had enough to eat and drink to stay healthy. Staff worked with all agencies involved in people’s care for the best outcomes and smooth transitions when moving services. They monitored people’s health to support healthy living. Staff made sure people understood their care and treatment to enable them to give informed consent.
People were treated with kindness and compassion. Staff protected their privacy and dignity. They treated them as individuals and supported their preferences. People had choice in their care and were encouraged to maintain relationships with family and friends. Staff responded to people in a timely way. The provider supported staff wellbeing.
People were fully involved in decisions about their care. Staff provided information people could understand. People knew how to give feedback and were confident the provider took it seriously and acted on it. The service was easy to access and worked to eliminate discrimination. People received fair and equal care and treatment. Staff worked hard to reduce health and care inequalities through training and feedback. People were involved in planning their care and understood options around choosing to withdraw or not receive care.
Leaders and staff had a shared vision and culture based on listening, learning and trust. Leaders were visible, knowledgeable and supportive, helping staff develop in their roles. Staff felt supported to give feedback and were treated equally, free from bullying or harassment. People with protected characteristics felt supported. Staff understood their roles and responsibilities. Managers worked with the local community to deliver the best possible care and were receptive to new ideas. There was a culture of continuous improvement with staff given time and resources to try new ideas.
We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed autistic people and people with a learning disability respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. We found the service worked in line with this guidance.
People's experience of this service
Feedback received from people and their relatives was overwhelmingly positive.
People told us they knew the staff well and received support from familiar faces. People said staff mostly arrived at the correct time, and they were well trained and knowledgeable. We did not find there were any problems with staffing levels. One person we spoke with said, “They do always come, mostly on time and they are reliable. I feel very safe with them, and they help me with everything I need. They sort my medication for me and there are never any issues.” Another person said, “I feel quite confident with them because they are very reliable and mostly the same carers. They are conscious of cleanliness and wear gloves and aprons.” Family members agreed and were satisfied with the standard of care; 1 relative said, “We have been very impressed with Prestige over the past 12 months. They have been very good at turning up and have never let us down. If anything changes, they will ring us and let us know who is coming.”
People commented that staff were kind and caring, 1 person said, “They are mostly all very nice and kind, they are more like family to me, and I look forward to them coming. We are able to have a laugh and a bit of banter; it’s a good rapport. They are very kind and considerate and will go out of their way to help me.”
Both people and their relatives said they would recommend the service to others and would not want to change to a different company.
