During an inspection looking at part of the service

We were unable to speak with people using the service because the people living at the home were not able to communicate verbally with us in a meaningful way. However we gathered evidence of people's experiences of the service by observing the care and support given to them by staff who worked at the home.

During a routine inspection

We haven't been able to speak to people using the service because the people living at the home were not able to communicate verbally with us in a meaningful way. However, we observed five people who used the service for a period of one hour and recorded their experiences at regular intervals. This included people's mood, and how they interacted with staff members, other people who use services, and the environment. This method of observation is called the Short Observational Framework for Inspection (SOFI). SOFI is a specific way of observing care to help us understand the experience of people who could not talk with us.

We also spoke with six relatives of people who used the service. They told us they were happy with the care and support given to their relative. One relative said 'Staff are always kind, and tell them about how their auntie had been when they visited'. Another relative said 'I observe how they talk to my mum and they always assist with things she has difficulty with, like helping her to walk safely'.

During an inspection looking at part of the service

We were unable to speak with people at this visit regarding the outcomes we were looking at, as people had limited understanding due to their medical conditions. However we spoke with relatives who told us they always seemed to be enough staff on duty and people did not have to wait long when they required assistance.

We also observed staff while we were at the service and the interactions we observed were appropriate and inclusive and dignity was maintained.

During a routine inspection

People told us they liked living at the home and staff always helped them with their care. They said they felt safe at the home and would tell the staff if they were worried about anything. People said they enjoyed the food and there was entertainment most days of the week.
