Date of assessment: 02July 2026 to 23 July 2026
Capwell Grange Care a care home supporting people who may be living with dementia, a physical disability, mental health support needs or a sensory impairment. The service provides accommodation for people who need personal care or nursing care. The service can support up to 146 people, and 143 people were living at the service at the time of our inspection.
At our last inspection, this service was rated good. At this inspection the service remains good.
We identified some areas for improvement during this inspection in relation to infection prevention control (IPC) and cleanliness, supporting people in line with the Accessible information standard (AIS) and some people going for long periods of time without meaningful interaction. The management team and provider took immediate action to start improving these areas during our inspection as explained throughout the report.
People were safe living at the service and staff were knowledgeable about safeguarding. There were enough staff to support people safely. People’s home environment was safe, and people were supported safely with their medicines. People’s care plans and risk assessments were detailed about how to support them. Staff supported people to live healthy lives, for example by making sure they drank enough or supporting them with pressure area care. People were supported in line with the Mental Capacity Act (MCA). People told us staff were kind, and we observed staff supporting people with dignity and respect. Staff supported people to make choices in their day to day lives. Staff knew people well as individuals. People and relatives were given information about how to speak up and feedback about the service. Any feedback received was used to drive improvements and positive changes at the service. The registered manager and wider management team completed audits which were effective in monitoring the quality of the service. Staff enjoyed their job roles and felt well supported by the management team and the provider.
People's experience of this service
We observed that, for some individuals, longer periods without meaningful engagement from the staff team contributed to a less positive experience.A few people gave us less positive feedback about their experiences. One person said, ‘‘It doesn’t feel good here. Staff pop their head around the door but that’s it. I am not able to do things by myself, and the staff do everything for me.’’ We fed back people’s less positive feedback to the management team, and they assured us this would be discussed and addressed with them.
However, overall, the majority of people and their relatives told us they were happy living at the service, and they felt the staff team were kind and compassionate. We observed people to be happy and relaxed whilst being supported by the staff team. For the most part, relatives described staff as kind and friendly and felt they knew their family member well. One person said, ‘‘[Staff] are kind and do everything they can to make you feel happy. They are all very caring people.’’ A relative told us, ‘‘[Staff] are all very consistent and the same faces. They are well trained and they are lovely with everybody.’’
