Equity in access
Staff had carried out a disability access audit. However, this was not regularly reviewed and did not have an action plan to continually improve access for patients.
Staff described the reasonable adjustments they had made to ensure the practice was accessible. The practice was not wheelchair accessible due to the steps at the front of the building. There was a ground floor treatment room and staff could provide information in larger print or alternative formats if required.
At the time of inspection, the practice did not have access to translation services, including British Sign Language. The practice submitted evidence following the inspection that these services were now available.
The frequency of appointments was agreed between the dentist and the patient, giving due regard to National Institute for Health and Care Excellence guidelines.
The practice provided telephone numbers for patients needing emergency dental treatment during the working day and when the practice was not open. Staff took part in an emergency on-call arrangement, and patients were directed to the appropriate out-of-hours service.
