Our view of the service

Date of Inspection: 26 March to 16 April 2025.

This inspection was carried out in response to concerns we received about the service in relation to staffing and the care people received.

AMG Nursing and Care Services - Burton is a domiciliary care agency registered to support the whole population including people with physical disabilities, mental health support needs, people with learning disabilities or autistic people or people who are living with dementia.

We expect health and social care providers to guarantee people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices and independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ is the guidance CQC follows to make assessments and judgements about services supporting people with a learning disability and autistic people and providers must have regard to it.

The provider had a positive and supportive culture where lessons were learnt when things went wrong. Staff worked together with external professionals to meet people’s needs. People’s care plans overall included clear information for staff to follow which were person centred and included their needs and preferences.

People were kept safe as staff followed processes the provider had put in place and required checks were completed. Staff knew how to raise concerns and action was taken as and when required.

We found some shortfalls in relation to staffing and the recording of monitoring in people’s care documents, these, however, were reviewed and updated by the provider when raised. We also found some discrepancies with the provider’s planned verses actual call times. Please see the safe, effective and well led sections of this full report.

The overall rating for the service is good based on the findings of this inspection.

People's experience of this service

People confirmed they felt safe with staff and were able to raise concerns, overall, they confirmed staff worked together and with other professionals to support and meet their needs.

Most people’s care records included their input and were person-centred, although some required further information in relation to their medical history. People confirmed staff wore Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and they did not have any concerns with their medicine management. People confirmed staff knew them well and understood how to support them safely.

Whilst people and relatives were overall happy with the care and support provided, they did raise some concerns over call times. They told us staff did not always arrive on time for their calls, and they were not always contacted if staff were going to be late. The provider confirmed they tried to ensure calls were completed on time and would reiterate the importance of staff calling if they were delayed.
