Our view of the service

Dates of assessment: 24 June 2026 to 9 July 2026. Body and Soul Assistance is a domiciliary care agency, providing care and support for people living in their own homes. At the time of our assessment the service was supporting 1 person with personal care. CQC only inspects where people receive personal care. This is help with tasks related to personal hygiene and eating. Where they do, we also consider any wider social care provided.

We carried out this assessment to check the provider had made the required improvements after our last assessment of the service.

The oversight of the service was not safe or effective. The required audits and routine checks were not in place. There were no detailed care plans or risk assessments to support the safe delivery of care. Recruitment was not safely managed and there was ineffective monitoring of staff training and compliance. Medicines were not managed safely. The provider demonstrated a lack of understanding of the requirements of their role, which meant the service was not well run and managed.

People’s needs were assessed before they started to use the service. However, this information was not translated into accessible care plans for staff. Monitoring of complex health care needs, including catheter care and skin integrity, were not in place and there was insufficient guidance for staff on how to support people safely.

People were supported by a consistent and dedicated staff team, who were kind and caring and knew people well. Whilst records did not evidence individualised support, staff embraced the principles of person-centred care and promoted people’s rights, choices and independence.

The provider was previously in breach of legal regulation in relation to good governance and safe recruitment. At this assessment the previous breaches had not been met, and we found additional breaches in relation to staff training and fit and proper persons at both provider and registered manager level.

This service is being placed in special measures. The purpose of special measures is to ensure that services providing inadequate care make significant improvements. Special measures provide a framework within which we user our enforcement powers in response to inadequate care and provide a timeframe within which providers must improve the quality of the care they provide. In instances where CQC have decided to take civil or criminal enforcement action against a provider, we will publish this information on our website after any representations and/ or appeals have been concluded.

People's experience of this service

Feedback from people using the service was very complimentary about the caring and compassionate nature of staff. Comments included, “They [staff] go above and beyond” and “They are a unique set of carers.” People were supported by a consistent staff team, who were flexible and provided support in emergency situations. Staff actively promoted people’s choices, individuality and supported them to be as independent as possible. This included support to live their lives in the ways that mattered to them, including care in the home and support in the community and going on holidays. Staff were reliable and dedicated.

However, while people told us they were happy with the care and support they received and spoke very positively about staff, our assessment identified areas where the service was not always operating in line with regulatory requirements.
