Our view of the service

Date of assessment 22 May to 9 June 2026.

Crows Nest is a care home supporting up to 12 people. People in care homes receive accommodation and personal care as a single package under one contractual agreement. CQC regulates both the premises and the care provided, and both were looked at during this inspection. At the time of our assessment 7 people were living at the service and only 5 people were receiving regulated activity. The assessment was carried out due to the length of time since the last assessment. We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed autistic people and people with a learning disability respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.

Crows Nest is a well-established service where people received care by staff who had worked at the service for many years. Staff understood people’s needs and the care and support provided was person centred. Communication between management and the staff was effective and the provider was good at responding to and acting when concerns were raised.

Care plans were updated regularly and contained key information to enable staff to provide support in line with best practice. People were involved in their care plans and were supported to understand these in a way that met individual communication needs.

Staff were kind and caring and spoke positively about people, treating them as individuals.

Staff received regular supervision, attended staff meetings, and had opportunities to feedback or comment on the support they received and how the service was operating. The manager and staff worked hard to continuously maintain standards and enhance people’s quality of life.

Staff training was not all up to date owing to changes in training provider. We discussed this during the assessment and managers took action to rectify this and implement a plan to ensure training was updated.
