Equity in access

Regulations met

Staff had carried out a disability access audit and had formulated an action plan to continually improve access for patients.

Staff described the reasonable adjustments they had made to ensure the practice was accessible. The treatment room was located on the ground floor. Although the toilet was not wheelchair accessible and there was a small step leading into the practice, the practice informed patients of this in advance of their appointments. To support patients with visual impairments, the practice offered large print materials and reading glasses were made available. Additionally, staff had access to language translation services to assist patients with communication needs. The practice disability access action plan included purchasing a portable ramp and considering options to extend the patient toilet.

Staff were clear about the importance of providing emotional support to patients when delivering care. For example, staff communicated with patients each step of their appointment to help ease anxiety.

The practice supported more vulnerable members of society, for example, patients living with dementia or adults and children with a learning disability.

The practice displayed its opening hours and provided information on their website.

The practice provided telephone numbers for patients needing emergency dental treatment during the working day and when the practice was not open.

At the time of our inspection, patients who needed an urgent appointment were offered one in a timely manner.
