Our view of the service

Date of assessment: 27 August to 22 September 2025. Moorville House is a residential care home, providing support to younger adults, some of whom may be living with a learning disability and/or autism. The service can support up to 8 people, and at the time of our assessment 6 people were living at the service. We assessed and inspected the service due to the length of time since the last assessment.

We have assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. We found people received care and support in accordance with the principles of this guidance.

Right support

People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests; the policies and systems in the service supported this practice. Restrictions were reviewed and creative solutions sought to reduce their use.

Staff maintained exceptional focus on people's strengths and promoted what they could do, this meant people had a fulfilling and meaningful everyday life and opportunities for new experiences. People were supported by staff to achieve their aspirations and pursue their interests.

Staff supported people with their medicines in a way that promoted their independence and achieved the best possible health outcomes. People played an active role in maintaining their own health and wellbeing. All restraint and restrictions were recorded and reviewed. Staff learned from these incidents and actions were taken to reduce the chances of people becoming distressed.

Right Care

Staff wanted to support people to have fulfilling lives and to see people achieve their goals and dreams for the future. The provider made sure people got all the information they needed in an accessible way for them, to make decisions about their care and support while feeling comfortable and safe.

Staff demonstrated effective skills in communication and behavioural support strategies. Staffing levels were adjusted to suit the needs and choices of people. People's needs were assessed holistically and modelled on best practice, considering individualised approaches to deliver the best outcomes for people.

People's equality and diverse needs were consistently promoted. Staff understood people's individual needs and a multi-cultural workforce provided culturally appropriate care. Staff protected people from poor care and abuse and worked well with other agencies to do so.

People's individual needs were met by the adaptation, design and decoration of the home. The service gave people care and support in a safe, clean, well equipped, well-furnished and well-maintained environment that met their sensory and physical needs.

Right culture

People led fully inclusive and empowered lives because of the ethos, values, attitudes and behaviours of the provider, management and staff team. It was very clear staff were enormously proud of the work they did in supporting people. People received exceptionally good quality care and support because trained staff and specialists who genuinely cared about people, could meet their needs and wishes

People were supported by staff who fully understood best practice in relation to the wide range of strengths, impairments or sensitivities people with a learning disability and/or autistic people may have. This meant people received exceptionally compassionate and empowering care that was tailored to their individual needs.

People's experience of this service

People and their relatives told us that the care exceeded their expectations. Staff were exceptionally kind, caring, and compassionate. Feedback from staff, relatives, and visiting professionals emphasised that this was an extremely caring service. Relatives confirmed that people were safe at the service. Comments included, “My loved one is safe, and they looked after their health. The staff team know who and what they liked.” Another said, “I am happy with most of the care my loved one receives. The basics are done well, and my loved one is happy and safe.” Staff assessed people’s needs before providing the service to ensure it was right for them and their needs and choices could be met. The assessments were comprehensive and completed with relatives and significant others who knew the person best. People received person-centred care that valued them as individuals. Staff completed care plans with people and their relatives, clearly reflecting identified needs, routines, preferences, and personal history. Staff reviewed these plans regularly. The guidance in care plans was person-centred and detailed, enabling staff to meet people’s needs while promoting choice and control. Relatives told us that staff had the knowledge, skills, and experience to meet people’s needs effectively. One relative commented, “The staff team had to deal with some challenging behaviour, but they managed everything and moved on. That is true care.”
