Our view of the service
We undertook a follow-up on-site inspection on 3 July 2025. This was carried out to review the actions taken by the registered provider to improve the quality of care and to assess whether the practice was meeting legal requirements.
We had previously undertaken an announced on-site inspection of Southbrook Dental Practice on 20 November 2024. We had found the registered provider was not providing well-led care and was in breach of Regulation 17 Good governance of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014.
During our follow-up inspection, we found the practice had not met regulations.
Improvements were required to the system for managing the risk associated with the carrying out of the regulated activities.
The practice had some systems to identify and manage risks, including fire safety and radiation protection.
The arrangements to respond to medical emergencies had been improved. However, further improvements were needed.
Recruitment procedures now reflected current legislation. However, improvements are required to ensure these are stored and retained appropriately. There was a lack of oversight of staff training.
Improvements had been made to the governance and oversight of the practice. Appropriate up-to-date policies were now in place.
Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance. However, improvements were required to the detail recorded in dental care records and the auditing of these.
Southbrook Dental Practice is in Bradford and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children.
The practice had 2 treatment rooms, but only 1 was in use. At the time of our inspection, there was a total of 4 staff, of which there were 1 dentist, 2 trainee dental nurses and 1 receptionist. During the assessment we spoke with the dentist, 1 trainee dental nurse and the receptionist.
The provider was not complying with 1 regulation. Full details of the regulation the provider was not meeting are within the inspection findings below.
We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this inspection.
