Our view of the service

Tattenhall Local Care Ltd is a domiciliary care service providing personal care and support to people living in their own homes within Tattenhall and the surrounding rural communities. The provider supports older adults with a range of needs, including physical health conditions, mobility difficulties, dementia and long-term health conditions, enabling people to remain living independently in their own homes with support tailored to their individual needs, preferences and aspirations.

At the time of this assessment, 13 people were receiving a regulated activity of personal care.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) regulates the personal care and support people may receive. CQC only inspects where people receive personal care. This is help with tasks related to personal hygiene and eating. Where people receive personal care, we also consider any wider social care support being provided.

Our view of the service

Our assessment was carried out remotely between 24 September 2026 and 9 October 2026 as part of a Return to Good assessment.

Evidence reviewed showed people were receiving safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led support from a staff team who knew them well and understood their individual needs.

People received safe care from staff who recognised changes in health and wellbeing and worked effectively with healthcare professionals to reduce the risk of avoidable harm. Safeguarding and incident records demonstrated staff identified concerns promptly and sought advice or intervention from GPs, district nurses, occupational therapists and emergency services when required. There was evidence lessons learnt from incidents were reflected in care planning and risk management arrangements, helping to keep people safe while maintaining their independence.

We found particularly strong evidence of Person-Centred Care and Kindness, Compassion and Dignity. Care plans were highly personalised and reflected a detailed understanding of people as individuals. Records included meaningful information about people's backgrounds, preferences, routines, relationships, hobbies, emotional wellbeing and aspirations, and this information was consistently reflected in the support people received. Staff demonstrated a good understanding of what mattered most to people and used this knowledge to tailor care around individual wishes, strengths and goals. People were actively involved in decisions about their care and were supported to maintain valued routines, relationships, interests and community connections.

There was strong evidence of a caring and compassionate culture throughout the service. Feedback from people, relatives, staff and professionals was consistently positive and reflected the meaningful relationships staff developed with the people they supported. People and those close to them described staff as caring, responsive and flexible and spoke positively about the quality of support they received. The volume of unsolicited compliments and positive feedback demonstrated people felt valued, respected and genuinely cared for.

Records showed staff supported people to achieve meaningful outcomes and continue living fulfilled lives. People were supported to maintain interests, hobbies, social connections, pet ownership and community involvement, including people living with dementia and those with changing health needs. Care was focused on enabling people to continue doing the things important to them rather than simply meeting their care needs.

Feedback from people, relatives, staff and professionals was consistently positive. Relatives described the service as providing reassurance, flexibility and high-quality support. They praised staff for their caring nature, communication and willingness to go above and beyond. A healthcare professional described feeling reassured when people were receiving support from the service and commented staff were proactive, responsive and worked closely with other professionals. Staff described a positive culture, approachable leadership and strong teamwork, and all staff interviewed said they would be happy for a family member or close friend to receive support from the service.

The provider demonstrated effective leadership and governance. Managers had oversight of key aspects of service delivery through audits, electronic monitoring systems, safeguarding reviews, medication audits, training oversight and regular quality reviews. Audits and monitoring processes resulted in action, including further training, increased observations and enhanced monitoring where appropriate. Feedback from both staff and professionals consistently reflected confidence in the registered manager, who was described as approachable, responsive and supportive and who promoted a culture where concerns were listened to, acted upon and used to drive improvement.

People's experience of this service

Feedback from people, relatives, staff and professionals was overwhelmingly positive and described a service that provided personalised, reliable and compassionate support which enabled people to remain living independently within their own homes.

People spoke highly of the quality of support they received and the positive impact this had on their lives. One person, who had received support for several years, described staff as being ‘like my family’, said they were ‘excellent’ and explained, "I can rely on them" and "I couldn't wish for better." They valued not only the practical support they received but the companionship staff provided, saying staff sat and chatted with them, kept them up to date with local news and showed an interest in their hobbies and life experiences. The person explained this helped them stay connected with the world around them and continue attending a weekly art class which staff actively encouraged.

Several people described staff as friends rather than carers. One person said staff were, "All super and interesting friends" and explained they looked forward to their visits, while another said, "They are nice to chat to" and "I love the company."
