Our view of the service

We carried out this announced, on-site inspection on 13 August 2025.

We found the practice had met regulations.

The practice had effective systems to identify and manage risks, including infection prevention and control. Improvements should be made to the systems to ensure fire safety and Legionella are managed effectively.

Staff had the skills, knowledge and experience to carry out their roles.

Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation and there was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement.

Staff provided care and treatment in line with current guidance. They treated patients with dignity and respect and ensured access to care, support, and treatment when required.

Westmount Dental Surgery @ Jarrow is part of Dr. Mohammed Ashfaq Quraishi, a dental group provider. The practice is in Jarrow in Tyne And Wear and provides private dental care and treatment for adults and children.

There was step-free access to the practice and car parking spaces were available near the practice.

The practice had 4 treatment rooms. At the time of our inspection, there was a total of 10 staff, of which there were 2 dentists, 4 dental nurses (including 1 trainee), 1 dental therapist, 2 receptionists and the practice manager. We gathered feedback from staff and spoke to a range of staff during our inspection, including 1 dentist, 2 dental nurses and the practice manager. The group’s compliance lead was also at the inspection, supporting the team.

People's experience of this service

Two weeks before our inspection, we asked the practice to encourage patients to share their views of the service with us. We did not receive any direct patient feedback.

On the day of our inspection, we saw patient feedback gathered by the practice. Of the 8 patients that responded in August 2025, all stated they would recommend the practice to friends and family.

Patient feedback provided a positive view of the dental team and care provided by the practice.

Comments included, “Without a doubt the best dental practice I've been to, friendly professional care”, “Very professional very pleased with my treatment I've also recommended you to my family friends”, “Thorough and considerate”, “Prompt, efficient, friendly.”

We reviewed online feedback, which generally provided a positive view of the practice. We also discussed patient feedback following the practice’s decision to stop offering NHS care. The leadership team confirmed they were aware of the concerns at the time and had responded by directing those patients to contact the practice directly.

The practice shared patient feedback with the team. We were informed that the feedback was reviewed, and if suggestions were made, for example, ‘Visit good, pleasant, friendly staff. It would be helpful if the waiting area had at least one higher chair with arms for patients with mobility problems,’ these suggestions would be reviewed and if appropriate, action would be taken.
