Our view of the service

Date of assessment: 8 July 2026 to 16 July 2026. Bradbury Gardens provides specialist residential care and support for people with complex health, physical and learning needs.

We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.

The provider had a good learning culture and people could raise concerns. Staff understood and managed risks well. They had the right skills, knowledge, and experience and received regular and relevant training. Staff understood their roles and responsibilities. Staff managed people’s prescribed medicines well.

People decided how they individually received care. People’s person-centred care plans and risk assessments took account of their individual communication needs as well as their personal care and health needs. Staff monitored people’s health to encourage healthy living and made sure people always had enough to eat and drink. People made their own decisions about the care they received, and the provider’s staff enabled people to maintain control over how they wanted to live their own life.

The registered manager and staff had a shared vision and culture based on enabling people to make their own choices about how they wanted to live their lives. This had recently been strengthened as the provider had, through their own systems, identified that improvements needed to be made to staffing and culture within Bradbury Gardens.

The registered manager was exceptionally knowledgeable about people’s individual care needs and was supportive towards the care staff, who acknowledged the improvements they had made. The provider treated staff fairly and respected their wellbeing. The registered manager collaborated with healthcare teams and therapists, internally and externally, to ensure people received consistent and effective healthcare support.

People's experience of this service

The model of care and support maximised people’s choice, control and independence. Care was person-centred and promoted people’s dignity, privacy and human rights. The ethos, values, attitudes and behaviours of leaders and care staff ensured people using the service led confident, inclusive and empowered lives.

People told us they were happy with the care they received, liked being involved in deciding how they received care and in deciding how they wanted to live their lives. They told us the staff were kind and friendly towards them and we saw, through observation, the positive relationships between staff and people at Bradbury Gardens.

People were involved in decisions about their lives and were supported to maintain their independence and make everyday choices. They told us staff listened carefully to what they had to say and took time to support them when needed. A relative told us, “[Staff] are always asking, what can we do to enhance my loved one’s life, the support continues to be individualised.”
