Our view of the service
We assessed Nelson House on 30 September 2025 to determine if the service had made improvements since a previous inspection. Following a previous inspection in August 2023, the provider was in breach of regulation regulation 9 (person-centred care) and regulation 17 (good governance) of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (regulated activities).
At this inspection we assessed the 13 quality statements across the Effective and Well-led key questions. At a previous inspection Effective and Well-led were rated requires improvement. At this inspection we found that the service had made improvements, met the requirements of regulations 9 and 17 with no new breaches identified. Effective and Well-led were rated as good with the service rated good overall.
Nelson House is a purpose-built rehabilitation unit for men of working age. The unit is registered for up to 28 people. At the time of the assessment there were 18 people admitted across two wards: Trafalgar and Victory. Trafalgar is an initial assessment locked rehabilitation ward and Victory is a ward which people moved onto as part of their recovery pathway. We visited both wards as part of this assessment.
Nelson House is registered with CQC to deliver the regulated activities: Assessment or medical treatment for persons detained under the Mental Health Act 1983, Treatment of disease, disorder or injury and Diagnostic and screening procedures. At the time of the assessment, the service had a registered manager. A registered manager is a person who has registered with the Care Quality Commission to manage the service. Registered persons have legal responsibility for meeting the requirements in the Health and Social Care Act 2008 and associated Regulations about how the service is run.
