Inspection carried out on 12 October 2012

During a routine inspection

We spoke with three people who attended the practice on the day of our visit, and we spoke to the dentist, the dental nurse and the receptionist. We also looked at peoples treatment plans, observed care and reviewed other documents relating both to peoples care and to the safe operation of the practice. One person said about the dentist, He always explains things and outlines the pros and cons of any treatments and another said The staff put people at ease; its very friendly here.

Everyone said they were treated with courtesy and respect, and felt confident they received good care and treatment. People told us that options, benefits and risks for different treatments had been explained in detail. We found that the clinic had audited peoples records, to check whether peoples oral health risks had been appropriately assessed.

People said they found the environment was clean and they had no concerns about infection control risks. The practice had achieved the essential standards for decontamination, and we saw that decontamination and infection control procedures met essential standards. Staff had completed training in a range of courses relevant to their roles, including infection control, first aid and resuscitation, and maintained their skills through continuing professional development.
