Our view of the service
Date of inspection: 4 June 2026 to 8 July 2026.
Ashcroft Surgery is a GP practice and delivers services to approximately 4,800 patients under a contract held with NHS England. The practice is a GP practice within NHS Thames Valley Integrated Care Board (ICB) and operates a dispensary. According to the latest available data, the ethnic make-up of the service area is approximately 91% White, 4% Asian, 2% Mixed, 2% Black and 1% Other. Information published by the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities shows deprivation within the practice population group is in the 9th decile (9 of 10). The lower the decile, the more deprived the practice population is relative to others.
We undertook a focused inspection of Ashcroft Surgery on 4 June 2026 due to the length of time since our last inspection. Due to concerns identified, we converted to a comprehensive inspection and in July 2026 we assessed all 33 quality statements across all 5 key questions: safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led.
We found a breach of regulation in relation to good governance. In instances where CQC has begun a process of regulatory action, we may publish this information on our website after any representations and/or appeals have been concluded, if the action has been taken forward.
This inspection considered the demographics of the patients using the practice, the context the practice was working within and how this impacted service delivery. Where relevant, further commentary is provided in the quality statements section of this report.
People's experience of this service
Patients were positive about the quality of their care and treatment. Recent survey results, including from the National GP Patient Survey 2026 and the NHS Friends and Family Test, showed patients were satisfied with services. There was a patient participation group (PPG) who had re-engaged and planned to represent the views of people using the service. Representatives from the PPG described how managers were receptive to feedback and said they felt changes would be implemented.
