During a routine inspection

During our inspection we spoke with three people living in the service. They were all satisfied with the care and support they received. One person told us, ""I like to do my own washing and cleaning, they let me do it."

We inspected four people's care plans and found that they were organised, contained a plan of people's care and risk assessments relating to the care. We saw that people were involved in the planning of their care and reviews of their care.

We found that there were sufficient staff on duty to meet people's care needs. One person told us, " "If I ring my bell they are here in seconds."

The service actively monitors the quality of the care provided and seeks the views of people living in the service as to the standard of the care provided.

During an inspection looking at part of the service

One person told us that the staff were "Lovely". Another told us that "They don't have time to take me out shopping", however the manager confirmed that this would be possible when the new care/activity workers started. We observed staff speaking to people in a sensitive way to distract them from inappropriate behaviour and encourage them to do something else. We observed staff sitting down and talking to people, in particular a person who was newly admitted.

During a routine inspection

People told us that they liked living in the service. They said "The staff were lovely", and "The girls are very patient." One person said that "Staff made my room feel very homely." Another person said that the staff "Were very nice and approachable but there were not enough of them."

During an inspection in response to concerns

People in the home were well groomed and dressed which showed that their personal care needs were met. We spoke with one person who used the service who told us they were happy with the service and staff treated them well.

At the time of our visit we observed people in the lounge (ground floor) taking part in different activities: painting bird sheds and joining in a group 'sing a long' to music chosen by the people who use the service.

We found that people in the home could made choices about aspects of their lives such as when to get up and go to bed, where they wanted to go in the home, what clothes they wanted to wear and what they would like to eat. One person told us that they had decided to lie in bed that morning and get up later.

People that were spoken with told us that the staff treated them well.
