At the previous assessment we identified the provider had failed to ensure fire safety measures were implemented without delay. The service had since implemented all recommendations made by the local Fire Service and completed regular fire checks.

People told us they liked their bedrooms and staff confirmed people were supported to choose the colours of the walls and personalisation of their bedrooms.

We observed safety measures were in place around the service, including radiator covers to reduce the risk of burns and window restrictors to help prevent falls from height. Equipment including a specialist bath and hoists, were regularly serviced to maintain safety.

Staff knew how to report any maintenance concerns. A member of staff told us, “[The environment] is very nice and friendly. I feel like I'm at home.”

Medicines optimisation

At the previous assessment the registered manager implemented improvements to medicines audits and practices. At this inspection we found the improvements had been embedded and sustained. Staff knew how to report any shortfalls and told us they were confident in medicines administration. We observed people receiving their medicines as prescribed. Staff had a comprehensive understanding and knowledge of people’s medicines. Creams were dated when opened and stored safely. Some people were prescribed ‘as required’ medicines. Guidance was in place to help staff administer the medicines safely. Storage temperatures were monitored. People and their relatives told us they had no concerns relating to medicines management in the service.
