Our view of the service
Date of assessment: 19 May 2026 to 09 June 2026.
Featherton House is a residential care home providing accommodation and personal care to up to 25 older people. At the time of our inspection there were 11 people using the service.
The last rating for this service was good. At this inspection the service has remained good.
People’s needs were assessed prior to admission, and care plans were regularly reviewed to reflect current needs. People’s care and support plans contained clear, person‑centred information about their preferences, likes and dislikes, and how they wished to receive care. Risk assessments were in place and included guidance to reduce and mitigate risks, such as choking.
Medicines were safely managed, and PRN (as required) protocols were in place, with staff monitoring their effectiveness.
Accidents and incidents were recorded and investigated, and appropriate referrals were made to external health professionals to support people’s needs.
However, environmental risks were identified during the inspection, in relation to accessible staircases, which increased the risk of falls. Although the provider had introduced some mitigation measures, they could not be fully assured these were sufficient to keep people safe. The registered manager responded promptly to feedback and arranged for adapted safety gates to be fitted.
Audits and analysis relating to people’s care demonstrated that actions were identified and responded to promptly, however not all governance systems were consistently effective in providing clear oversight and accountability. Some audits lacked clarity regarding responsibility for actions and completion timescales and follow‑up checks were not always undertaken to ensure actions had been completed.
