Governance, management and sustainability
At the inspection on 4 June 2025 we found the practice had made the following improvements to comply with the regulation:
The management of fire safety was effective, and fire exits were clear and well signposted. A new wireless smoke alarm system was installed in 2023, and the smoke alarms were tested each week. All combustible items had been moved away from the compressor in the basement and new smoke alarms were installed in the basement.
Hazardous substances had been risk assessed and were all clearly labelled and stored safely.
We saw satisfactory records of servicing and validation of equipment in line with manufacturer’s instructions. A gas safety check had been carried out on 25 July 2024. We saw no evidence of a Electrical Installation Condition Report on 4 June 2025, we discussed this with the provider and were sent evidence that they were actively acquiring quotes to get this booked in.
Emergency equipment and medicines were available in accordance with national guidance. We noted that the medical emergency kit, including the automated external defibrillator (AED) were not checked weekly. We discussed this with the receptionist and a new checklist was created during the follow-up assessment.
The practice ensured clinical staff were qualified, registered with the General Dental Council and had suitable immunity to Hepatitis B to carry out their roles.
There were effective processes for identifying and managing risks, investigating incidents and accidents, and for receiving and acting on safety alerts. The practice had installed wired smoke alarms, risk assessed all hazardous substances and had a gas safety check completed.
The practice had also made further improvements and had ensured all clinical staff had the correct level of immunity for Hepatitis B. All staff had undertaken training in safeguarding vulnerable adults and children at a suitable level for their roles.
